Springfield North High Class of 1965
January 2008:
  • Happy New Year to everyone. I hope that everyone has a great year in 2008. To start, the following is an article that Howard Roof sent to me which I am placing on the website. If anyone has anything that they would like me to place on the website just send me an email. The latest news from me is that we are expecting our sixth grandchild in April. I will also try to scan more of the yearbook pictures and place them on the website. Any particular requests? Take care for now.

  • SPRINGFIELD - Construction crews continue to work on the new Springfield High School, as the structure is 70 percent complete, site manager Steve Midgley said Tuesday. Pipe insulation, painting and flooring are being installed inside the 384,000 square-foot building, the largest ever jointly funded by the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission. Red lockers have been installed on most of the first floor and some of the rooms have been painted red and blue. A majority of the red and blue cabinets have also been installed. Midgley said 80 percent of the roof has been completed, with the unfinished parts being near the gymnasium and above the locker rooms. "The weather has been somewhat of a problem," Midgley said. "Most of the structure has a steel roof which is screwed down, but the concrete (roof) requires an adhesive and you can't have any moisture or frost when gluing it down." The second of the three connecting hallways has also been completed, joining the education wing, to the front wing of the building. The teachers' lunch room is nearly complete and provides a scenic view of the campus. Ruscilli/Kapp Construction plans to hand over the building to Springfield City Schools on July 18, spokesman Tom Drerup said. North High School will be torn down to make room for parking lots some time in the early summer after students are done with school on May 16, he said. The approximately $60 million school is the last project under Springfield City Schools' $194 million construction project through the OSFC, which is funding 82 percent of the construction. All 16 of the district's schools will be new when the project is complete.
